Locating an Acupuncturist?
*****
Acupuncture has become a very popular treatment for health related issues of all kinds. It can be used to treat people suffering from stress and anxiety along with all sorts of body pains. Acupuncture is something that is not without risks however, as the treatment involves the insertion of needles into various points on the body, proper sterilization of the needles is paramount, although most practitioners today use disposable needles. With a trained certified professional acupuncturist, you will be able to get relief from your pain without any anxiety over the possibility of contamination from un-sterilized needles.

There are many ways to find a good certified practitioner, most people will use the word of mouth recommendation. You would be surprised at the number of people who have regular acupuncture treatments. For some, it’s like going to the chiropractor to get your back realigned – a weekly or bi-weekly treatment to make life easier. You may want to ask your friends or family for their opinion on some of the local acupuncturists. Maybe they see an acupuncturist that they really like or maybe they have seen an acupuncturist that they did not like. Both are important to note. If a friend has a bad experience with an acupuncturist, be careful, the one they used may have been unlicensed. If your friends do not see an acupuncturist, perhaps someone they know does. This is the beauty of word of mouth; there is an endless network of opinions and resources. But it is always best to check that the practitioner you see has a certified license, otherwise you could be running unnecessary risks.

Often all it takes is a visit to your family doctor or other healthcare professional to find a suitable licensed acupuncturist in your area. In fact, because of its popularity and effectiveness, many medical professionals are becoming certified acupuncturists, so you could find one on the staff of your local doctors surgery.

A lot of people will also go online and find an acupuncturist to help them relieve their pain. Because most states require acupuncturists to be licensed, there is also a database of competent acupuncture practitioners. If you look up the American Association of Oriental Medicine, you will be able to find acupuncturist nation wide. This association is comprised of state acupuncture and medical boards. Besides the nationwide search, there are also links to each state medical board or acupuncture licensing department, where you may also search for licensed practitioners in your particular area.

If you have any concerns about using the services of an acupuncturist, why not make an appointment and discuss your concerns either with the practitioner or your family doctor, and only make your final decision when you are completely satisfied that it is the right treatment for your particular ailment.
